why
Print media has always gone hand-in-hand with advertisements. The public is socialized to not only tolerate print ads, but even to expect and enjoy them. The Internet, where many advertisers tend to try and reach this demographic, is the opposite. It was born without advertisements and the injection of them becomes an outright annoyance and a deterrent to use. Sticks & Stones was born out of this frustration and strives to provide the content people want within a medium where advertisements are expected.

profile magazine
The success of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn demonstrate that following and friending have become an integral part of today's society. Social networking is now a part of everyday life for the college-age demographic. Our evaluation of social networks has highlighted two trends which emerge above all others:
- People are willing to broadcast their lives.
- People want to listen.
These trends reflect two primitive urges: people crave celebrity and people are naturally voyeuristic.
Campus life allows for unprecedented free time that students look to fill. The post-secondary demographic prefers bite-sized content that can be easily picked up, consumed and tossed back on a public table. In an era where traditional news print is suffering reduced readership due to its Internet alternative, campus publications have gone the other way, and have seen an increase in readership*.
As a free monthly, Profile Magazine will marry the key lessons from social-networking with traditional print media.
